MEARN
In 2003, MEARN provided consultation to the US Advisory Group on Public Diplomacy for the Arab and Muslim World and its publication, Changing Minds Winning Peace. In November 2004, MEARN was asked to join a consortium of organizations managing a three year USAID project, Advancing Learning and Employability for a Better Future (ALEF).
In December 2004, Secretary of State Colin Powell spent time with MEARN students who had participated in Global Connections—some of the first Moroccan students to have a virtual and a physical exchange experience with the United States. In December 2005, eight representatives from the American Council of Young Political Leaders visited Youssef Ben Tachfine, an iEARN school in Marrakech, and met with students and teachers. During the years 2005, 2006 and 2007, MEARN trained around 1400 teachers in how using ICTs as pedagogical tool. In 2007 MEARN become official partner of the MoE in implementing GENIE project (national ICTs in education initiative).MEARN works closely with the ministry of education on the related ICTs school curriculum). In September 2007, MEARN received a grant from the Regional English Language Office to implement Unlimited Students project (community service activities). In January 2008, MEARN has been nominated to join the national committee of Internet filtrage to offer regular consultations on this issue. Outcomes of MEARN-led programs include concrete examples in classrooms and communities of training in technology-based educational reform to cultivate critical, creative, and independent thought and civic and social responsibility. MEARN support programs that link educational reformers within and across national boundaries, and use local organizational capacity to leverage opportunities to advance educational outcomes. |
